Thematic Lack of communication and collaboration/ Hybrid work
Employees and employers have had 2 years to get used to remote
working. Still, the basic issues are limping along. Only one in four home
office workers has a company laptop and one in five uses an online tool
for internal communication. Research at Microsoft has shown that when
everyone works remotely, communication and collaboration suffer, and
people find it difficult to share knowledge. Remote working has resulted
in employees spending more time using email and spending about 25%
less time collaborating with colleagues in other departments in the
company, compared to pre-pandemic levels.

0. Problematic “The lack of face-to-face meetings makes it difficult to solve problems or
situation in my job/my clarify issues that require more interaction. Many times I have to wait
organisation regarding for a response to an email or message, which slows down processes and
flexible work obstructs teamwork.
I often have trouble communicating quickly and getting answers from
other team members. Normal desk conversations have been replaced by
emails or messages on communication apps, which sometimes leads to
delays and confusion. We don’t have structured tools to manage
projects and track progress. We often don't know what other team
members are doing, what their priorities are, and whether they need
our help.
I feel isolated and cut off from the rest of the team. I miss the regular
meetings and opportunities for looser conversations that were natural in
the office. I often feel like an individual acting on my own and this makes
it difficult to collaborate and exchange ideas”
B. How do you “ I think the solution for these issues requires action by both employees
think the and employers. It is important to set up clear communicative and
situation collaborative routines, for example, have regular online meetings, use
could be collaborative tools, and monitor progress as well as provide a space for
improved? informal conversation and team integration.
We as a team should ask more questions, express our needs and actively
participate in communication”
